Chief Minister Ameer Haidar Khan Hoti has stressed the speedy and timely completion of Luwari Tunnel in order to exterminate the problems of people of Chitral. He assured that steps would be taken for security during the construction work on the tunnel. This matter was unanimously endorsed during an important high level meeting at Pakhtunkhwa House Islamabad on Monday which was also attended by Federal Minister for Communications Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khalil. Other participants of the meeting included; ANP provincial Chief Afraseyab Khattak, Federal Minister for Information Mian Iftekhar Hussain, MNA from Chitral Shahzada Mohi-ud-Din including Muhammad Salim Khan, MPA from Dir and Chitral Muhammad Anwar Khan and Ghulam Muhammad Khan, ACS Home Fayaz Khan Toro, Federal Secretary for Communications Sharif Ahmad Khan, Chairman NHA Chaudry Altaf Ahmad and other high officials.
The chief minister and Federal Minister for Communications agreed on this that they both will contact the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani for provision of required fund in order that this great project complete urgently. The chief minister said that by the completion of this project , not only a longstanding demand of the people of Chitral will be met but our communication links with Tajikistan, Dushanbe and other Central Asian States will be further strengthen.
The meeting was further informed that Luwari Tunnel has been converted from rail to road tunnel because the road tunnel can be constructed swiftly and will cost less adding that the rail tunnel will cost 17.6 billion whereas the road tunnel will be constructed at the cost of 15 billion rupees. The chief minister said that the provision of security during the construction work on the tunnel is our responsibility while its speedy and quality construction is the duty of the Federal Communications Ministry. The federal communication minister assured the chief minister that the construction work on the tunnel will complete swiftly by the grace of God adding that in this respect we have not only consulted local construction experts and made arrangements of workshops and seminars, but have also consulted foreign consultants and contractors.
Earlier, the Chairman NHA Chaudry Altaf Ahmad and Federal Communications Secretary Sharif Ahmad Khan briefed the participants in detail about the construction work on Luwari Tunnel. The participants were further informed that the converting from rail tunnel to road tunnel will not only save 2 billion rupees but more vehicles will also be able to cross the tunnel at the same time. They further added that the completion of tunnel will usher an era of economic and industrial revolution in the country and we will also be able to earn considerable foreign exchange. They said that by the construction of the tunnel, we will not only be able to provide better facilities to the travelers in Hotels, motels and services areas using the tunnels but will also be able to eradicate railway workshops. It was also decided during the meeting that light vehicles would also be allowed to use the tunnel and the people of Chitral will be connected to the whole country as well as Central Asian States. Chief Minister NWFP told that required security would be provided on its either sides of the tunnel during the construction work on it. |
